She moved to Chicago in 2009, where she attended The Second City Training Center for acting classes. Tolman made her debut in 2014. She starred on the FX Crime comedy Fargo's debut season. Fargo is a 1996 Coen Brothers film, starred Billy Bob Thornton (as Molly Solverson), Martin Freeman (as Bob Odenkirk) and Bob Odenkirk. Tolman was praised for her performance in the character of Minnesota Police Officer Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair declared that Tolman was "calmly sure of taking over the whole the show". Tolman has been known as a Twitter user, claimed that she earned "pretty amazing" results on The ABC show Emergence.
